A section of the Azimio La Umoja coalition leaders have dismissed claims of plans to join President William Ruto’s administration as part of the proposed broad-based government.
The coalition leaders led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka while addressing the press, revealed the decision was reached following a meeting held by individual parties.
According to Kalonzo, the coalition would not be a party to a decision by any of its leaders who decided to join President Ruto’s administration.
According to the Wiper party leader, the coalition would continue supporting the Kenyan people in championing a better administration.
“We reiterate our public position that when it comes to siding with Gen Zs, and the Kenyan people, our decision is as obvious as day and night, we will always stand with the people of Kenya," Kalonzo Musyoka announced.
“Should any of our members opt to join the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity, we shall not be a party to that decision.”
Kalonzo further refuted allegations that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga planned to join President Ruto's broad-based government.
While addressing the allegations, the former Vice President clarified that the Azimio leader proposed a convention and not a dialogue.
According to Kalonzo, It is after the convention that an engagement can be made regarding the interim arrangement of a government of a transitional government.
"This is something we need to reflect on after what our leader, Raila Odinga, called a national convention and not a dialogue," Kalonzo clarified.
The fresh stance by Azimio leaders comes against the backdrop of Raila Odinga's proposed formation of a national convention where he stated all Kenyans would be brought on board and allowed to express their views.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader while addressing delegates during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, faulted a section of the media for misinterpreting his initial sentiments.
“ODM never said that it was going into bed with Ruto. We never said it. It is a creation of the media,” Raila stated.
“What we are calling for is a National Convention where all Kenyans will be brought on board to air their views. It is a fact everyone is annoyed with Kenya Kwanza," he added.
