Learners who are dissatisfied with their Grade 10 Senior School placement will have a second opportunity to review their school choices beginning next week, the Ministry of Education has announced.
In a statement on Tuesday, December 30, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said that learners can revise their placement between Tuesday, January 6, and Friday, January 9, following the conclusion of the first review, whose results were released on Monday, December 29.
In the first revision, the ministry received a total of 355,457 applications for review, and 211,636 of them were approved, while the rest were declined.
According to the CS, the declined applications were rejected mainly because of the absence of the preferred subject combination or the lack of capacity in the selected schools.
"Learners were allowed the opportunity to apply for review of the initial placement from 23rd December, 2025. The processing of review applications was concluded on 29th December, 2025, and the results are now available on the placement portal," Ogamba said.
"There were, for example, up to 20,000 applications for schools like Alliance High School, Kenya High School, and Mangu High School, against an average capacity of 500 slots," he added.
88 per cent of all learners have been placed in line with their original or revised selections, according to the ministry.
The ministry has assured that learners whose reviews were approved can access joining instructions through the Ministry's placement portals.
Learners would be required to report to their respective senior schools starting from January 12, according to the Ministry
Ogamba announced the results of the 2025 KJSEA examination on Thursday, December 11, followed by the release of Grade 10 placement results on Friday, December 19.
A total of 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA, with 578,630 being male, and 551,829 being female.
The learners will be required to report to their respective senior schools starting from January 12.
On December 20, President William Ruto said that the government had assured that government had released sufficient resources to ensure that the transition to Grade 10 is seamless.
According to the Head of State, the government has released more than Ksh44 billion in capitation funds, which will reach schools before the learners report.
Ruto assured that the government is committed to ensuring that the 1.1 million students who sat for the KJSEA reports transition to senior schools and cautioned politicians against politicising the process.
