The family of a fifteen-year-old student from Nyahururu has raised questions after their daughter was shot on Tuesday evening.
The Bishop Louis Ngarenaro mixed-day secondary school student is nursing rubber bullet injuries on her left leg after an encounter with the police close to her home in Nyahururu.
According to the student, she was on her way home when a police vehicle passed by her with the police shooting her down.
While narrating the incident, the student stated that the impact of the shooting left her unconscious only for her to come to while at the hospital.
“I was on my way from school when a police vehicle, reached up to me when I was almost home, and the police shot at me with rubber bullets,” she stated.
The student further elaborated that the injuries sustained on her leg forced the doctors to stitch her up six times.
Following the incident, the parents have narrated being forced to carry her to and from school given that the students were in the process of undertaking exams.
The parents are also calling for the government to solve the current unrest to avoid such occurrences in the future.
Additionally, they have called on the authorities to launch a probe and identify the police officer who was involved in the heinous act.
The Tuesday incident adds to a piling case list of alleged police brutality while dealing with protestors during the nationwide protestors.
In Rongai, on June 27, residents witnessed a brutal use of force by police when they used live bullets, to disperse protestors.
Tragically, a child was caught up in the crossfire and shot, later succumbing to his injuries.
