Daadab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim on Wednesday called out Kenyans opposing the current cabinet nominees after President William Ruto on Wednesday nominated four staunch allies of opposition leader Raila Odinga to serve in his administration.

Taking to social media, the MP argued that Kenyans should not apply double standards when evaluating the latest political realignments having termed the Uhuru-Raila handshake and the formation of the grand coalition government in 2008 as patriotic moves.

"If it was patriotic to craft the coalition pact in 2008 & serve that Government, it is equally patriotic to constitute a government of National Unity in 2024," he argued.

He called for peace among Kenyans arguing that the General Election was only three years away. The Member of Parliament emphasised that Kenya was bigger than anyone and that all citizens must uphold peace.

Maalim advocated for a national conversation adding that there was no room for anarchy in countries with a modern constitutional democracy such as Kenya . He reiterated that leaders are only voted in and out during elections.

Additionally, the MP complained about Kenyans judging the nominees without hearing them out first. He questioned why some nominees were forced to apologise.

"How does one apologise for cheap fake stuff? How do you condemn somebody without hearing him out? Engage your brains before cheap populism."

"The struggle to emancipate Kenyans was there before many were born. I was there longer than all of you. At least respect history and your parents," he remarked.

His remarks came a few hours after President William Ruto announced the second batch of Cabinet Secretary nominees set to be vetted in Parliament imminently.

Ruto nominated to cabinet Raila allies such as; Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum) Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperative sand MSMEs), and John Mbadi (National Treasury).

The new list of cabinet secretary nominees include a few individuals dismissed by President Ruto a few weeks ago. The announcement stirred up mixed reactions amongst Kenyans.
