Activist Boniface Mwangi was on Thursday reportedly arrested by police officers while protesting at the Kenyatta Market in Nairobi.

While confirming his arrest, Mwangi’s lawyer revealed the activist was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station.

Boniface Mwangi was arrested alongside fellow activist Hussein Khalid of Haki Africa while protesting against the recent killings witnessed during the anti-government demonstrations.

While calling for their release, the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) vowed to continue championing the arrest of the officers who reportedly shot at the anti-government protesters.

"Free Boniface Mwangi and Hussein Khalid. We won't stop demanding that the officers responsible for the deaths of innocent Kenyans be held accountable," the Commission noted.

Moments before his arrest, the activist was captured marching across the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) alongside other protesters while holding huge placards and crosses. The protesters were clad in white T-shirts.

However, the demonstrations were cut short after police officers intervened and began dispersing the protesters, it was during the altercation that the activist was cornered and arrested.

His arrest comes hardly a week after protesting youths reportedly stormed his offices and accused him of orchestrating the recent demonstrations witnessed in the country.

In the videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the youths were captured hoisting twigs and placards as they demanded an audience with the activist.

“We want to stop the demonstrations,” commented one of the demonstrators. “We want peace, not demonstrations,” lamented one of the demonstrators.

“We are the ones who suffer losses when we engage in such unlawful demonstrations. The government has already vowed to restore Kazi Kwa Vijana, we're ready to listen to them," another stated.
