The Kenyan Police over the weekend managed to chase away 400 members of the feared Mawozo gang who had taken control of Ganthier town in Haiti.

According to reports released on Tuesday, July 30, the gang members started fleeing to nearby bushes and forests after the first armoured truck arrived in the rural town.

It was a sigh of relief for most residents in Ganthier town who had lived in terror for years with most seeking shelter and protection at the Dominican Republic border.

“At the arrival of the tan-coloured mine-resistant vehicles in Ganthier, heavily armed members of the 400 Mawozo gang fled into the bushes,” local media captured the scenes during the takeover.

Despite the gangs having guns and ammunition, they reckoned they could not compete with the sophisticated weapons supplied by the Pentagon to the Kenya police.

Additionally, while most gang members are guerrilla fighters, Kenya Police in Haiti are highly trained in special weapons and tactics.

While locals have appreciated the move by Kenyan police, they regretted that the officers did not set camp in the rural town.

After chasing away the Mawozo Gang, Kenyan Police with their Haitian counterparts went back to the capital Port-au-Prince.

The Mawozo Gang has now started getting out of hiding and sneaking back to Ganthier town.

Angry because of the humiliation they were subjected to, the gang are now robbing residents and businesses as well as promising bloodshed

“Everyone in the area is panicking because of the messages, the threats the head of 400 Mawozo has been sending,” one of the residents complained.

With Kenya expected to add more police officers to the multinational force, it is expected that Ganthier will be completely liberated in the coming days.
