Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has disclosed a powerful politician's hand in the game of Western Politics.
Savula claimed that he was instructed by senior opposition leaders to lobby Western Kenya politicians to boycott a recent political meeting held at the Kakamega Gold Hotel convened by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala.
The meeting, according to Savula, was deemed irrelevant to the Luhya community's development agenda.
"I have convened this meeting to give a rejoinder to what has happened today in Kakamega," Savula said.
He elaborated on his prior consultation with the opposition chief, who was in Mombasa at the time.
"I consulted the Azimio leader on whether to attend the meeting or ignore it; he gave me express instructions to lobby all members of parliament from Western to skip the meeting because the meeting was not going to discuss anything tangible in regard to the Luhya community," Savula said.
Savula criticized the meeting, stating, "If there are issues regarding the development, a budget of a country is not done by a secretary general of a party. The budget is done by the executive comprising ministers and is taken to parliament for approval; it is not discussed in a hotel."
He added that the meeting's agenda was primarily to discredit the current leadership of Western Kenya, which includes Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, and the current nominee for the Cooperatives and MSMEs docket, Wycliffe Oparanya.
"Those are current leaders in government. We are standing by those leaders."
Looking forward, Savula announced plans for a significant political gathering that will be headlined by Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula.
"We are going to convene a major meeting co-chaired by Musalia and Wetangula and all the MPs from Western province to discuss the political agenda of this community in view of the broad-based government that has been put in place by William Ruto and Raila Odinga," he stated.
The unfolding political dynamics in Western Kenya highlight the region's pivotal role in the national political landscape, especially as leaders rally to consolidate their influence and chart the future direction for their community within the framework of Kenya's evolving governance.
