Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa on Tuesday, July 30 accused Mt Kenya politicians of dividing the populous voting bloc and plotting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment.

Speaking during a media interview, Thang'wa pointed fingers at Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri as one of the leaders behind this plot.

The Senator critiqued the MP for his earlier remarks which he argued were preparing the grounds for ousting Gachagua.

"What Kiunjuri was doing was preparing the ground to impeach Gachagua and I must say this is what most Mt Kenya leaders are doing," he stated.

According to Thang'wa, Kiunjuri had earlier alleged that those planning a coup were from Mt Kenya. He noted that if residents from the region had not deciphered the message, things would have turned chaotic.

Furthermore, the Senator revealed that there was an issue between the DP and President William Ruto. He lamented that those to the were fueling the tension instead of resolving it.

He however warned this group planning to impeach the DP arguing that it would not be a 'walk in the park'. The Senator added that Gachagua was elected by over five million Kenyans.

"They should shelve this idea because if the country was almost destroyed because of a piece of paper, the finance bill, what do you think things would turn out if a person people elected was impeached," he posed.

On the matter of whether the impeachment motion would pass in Parliament, the Senator explained that MPs were wiser now and were more keen to listen to the people.

He opined that President Ruto would also not support or allow this impeachment to take place. The Senator argued that Ruto 'owed' the region and would not harm the people who voted for him.

"Those plotting this ouster are selfish, this man Kiunjuri maybe he thinks that he will secure the DP's seat if it becomes vacant. I want to tell him that he will not get it," Thang'wa remarked.

Conclusively, in the interview, the Senator called upon politicians from the Mt Kenya region to support Deputy President Gachagua.

"The only leader we have in the region with a huge following is the Deputy President but we are fighting him instead of supporting him," he remarked.
