Govt to Auction Motorbikes and Cars in 3 Police Stations After ultimatum to Owners

Owners of vehicles and motorcycles lying idle in several police stations around the country have been warned to pick them, or they will be sold.

This is after the government announced plans to auction cars and motorcycles lying within Huruma Police Station, Kiriaini Police Station and Malindi Police Station.

In a Gazzette Notice dated Friday, August 16, the Huruma Police Station and Kiriaini Police Station have given the owners a 30-day ultimatum to collect them while Malindi Police Station has given the owners 14 days.

Huruma appointed Windsor House Auctioneers, Kiriaini appointed Astorion Auctioneers while Malindi appointed Makys Auctioneers to oversee the the auctioning process.

“Notice  is issued pursuant to the provisions of the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38) of the laws of Kenya and following authorities and order under the miscellaneous application Case No.E843 of 2024 in the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Makadara, to the owners of motor vehicles and motor cycles which are lying idle and unclaimed within Huruma Police Station, to collect the said motor vehicles and motorcycles at the said police station," the notice read in part.

“Failure to which auctioneers shall sell by way of public auction on expiry of a thirty (30) days notice from the date of this publication”.

Huruma Police Station has 16 motorcycles and 2 cars, Kiriaini police station has 17 motorbikes and 2 wheelbarrows.

“Notice  is issued pursuant to the provisions of the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38) of the laws of Kenya and following an authority and order from the Senior Principal Magistrate Court at Kangema, Cr. Misc. Case No. E 017 of 2024 to the to the owners of motorbikes which are laying idle and unclaimed within Kiriaini Police Station, to collect the said motor bikes at the said yard within thirty (30) days from the date of this publication of this notice”, the notice continued.

“Failure to which Astorion Auctioneers, Nairobi shall proceed to dispose of the said motorbikes by way of public auction on behalf of Kiriaini Police Station if they remain uncollected/unclaimed”.

Malindi Police Station has over 30 motorbikes and several unclaimed scrap metals. The owners were given owner a 14 -Day ultimatum to pick them.

“Notice  is issued pursuant to the provisions of the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38) of the laws of Kenya and following authorities and order under the miscellaneous application case no E64 of 2024 in the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Malindi, to the owners of Motor cycles which are lying idle and unclaimed within Malindi police station, to collect the said motorcycles at the said police station, failure to which Makys Auctioneers shall sell by way of public auction on expiry of fourteen (14) day notice from the date of this publication."

Other stations that have seen similar auctions include Kayole Police Station as well as Embu and Kandara Police Station. Moneys from such auctions are placed on consolidated funds.
