The accident led to a traffic snarl-up as vehicles struggled to navigate the steep section of the road near the accident site.

Authorities arrived shortly after the incident to manage the situation and direct traffic.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by road users and the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent such occurrences.

In another separate incident in early 2024 at the same spot, two people from Riandira village, Kirinyaga County lost their lives.

According to the police, the accident at Kandongu Junction on the Mwea-Embu Highway involved a matatu carrying 14 passengers and a motorcycle. Tragically, the two individuals on the motorcycle died at the scene.

Incidentally, the motorcycle was travelling from Ngurubani toward Makutano when, upon reaching the accident site, the rider attempted to make a right turn.

This manoeuvre led to a collision with an oncoming vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.
