Kenya is set to experience a week of unpredictable weather, with the Kenya Meteorological Department issuing a five-day forecast that warns of cold, cloudy, and rainy conditions across various regions.

Starting on Saturday, August 31, and continuing until Wednesday, September 3, residents in Nairobi, Kiambu, and other areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley should prepare for fluctuating temperatures and intermittent rain.

The Highlands, including counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, are expected to experience scattered showers on Saturday.

As the weekend progresses, the forecast suggests cloudy mornings and the possibility of showers in the afternoons and at night on Sunday and Monday.

The weather will take a turn for the wetter on Tuesday and Wednesday, with residents needing to brace themselves for significant rainfall.

Temperatures in these regions will range from a brisk 5°C to a more comfortable 29°C, creating a sharp contrast that will keep residents vigilant as they navigate their daily routines.

David Gikungu, the Director of the Kenya Meteorological Department, emphasised the need for caution, stating, "Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley."

Further south, the South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, will experience a mix of sunny weather and cloudy intervals, particularly at night.

The temperatures in this region are expected to vary, with a low of 9°C on Tuesday and reaching up to 30°C on Monday and Tuesday, providing some respite from the chilly conditions experienced elsewhere.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, covering counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira, will not escape the wet weather.

Rainfall is anticipated throughout the weekend, with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoons and nights from Saturday to Wednesday.

Temperatures in these areas will also fluctuate, ranging from a cool 9°C to a warmer 33°C on Sunday.

Residents along the Coast, including Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, should prepare for a similarly wet week.

The forecast predicts showers on Saturday morning and afternoon, with cloudy skies at night. Sunday morning will offer brief sunny intervals, but rain is expected to return in the afternoon and night.

From Monday to Wednesday, continuous showers are anticipated throughout the day and night, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 30°C.
