A sombre mood engulfed Gesabaku Village in Bomachoge, Kisii County after a 46-year-old man was reportedly killed by unknown assailants inside his house.
Upon receiving information about the man’s death, a group of angry villagers resorted to burying the deceased inside his house before chasing away his family members.
The villagers dug a grave inside the man’s living room during which the village elders performed rituals at the victim’s graveyard before laying him to rest.
"The area youth decided to bury the man inside his house because there was no alternative place to bury him so they had no option," narrated one of the villagers.
While mourning the victim, the residents implicated the deceased's family in the murder of the middle-aged man whose body was found lying inside his bedroom.
Following the incident, the residents marched to the area police station demanding to know the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
“The people who have been killed here in recent years are so many and the government is yet to take any action," another villager told journalists.
“Of all the cases about murders that we have reported, none of them has been solved," he added.
The Officer in Charge of the Police Station (OCPD)Gomba Sebbe assured the residents that investigations would be conducted and stern action taken against those found culpable.
"No need to fear, I am here, you summoned me to come and address you, those who committed this heinous act must be brought to book," Sebbe assured the villagers.
The latest incident follows another similar tragedy in January this year where a trader was shot dead by unknown people as he returned to his house in Menyinkwa, Kisii.
The body of the victim was found sprawled on the tarmac with gunshots on the head just a few meters from his Mwamoriango home.
