The Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board on Monday, September 9, suspended four pharmaceutical practitioners over professional misconduct in the course of their duties.

According to the board’s Enquiries and Disciplinary Committee(EDC) Chairperson Richard Muthoka, two of the practitioners had their licences revoked for a period of two years.

The two are reported to have allowed unlicensed individuals to access and operate using their professional credentials contrary to the law.

‘’Their offenses included allowing unlicensed individuals to access their professional credentials and manage their licensed premises,’’ the board said in a statement.

The move by the two, according to the board, put the lives of the unsuspecting Kenyans at risk.

The third practitioner, a technologist in the pharmaceuticals, was handed a three month suspension for failing to ensure proper closure of their facilities they operated in and thereby granting access to unauthorized persons to access the facility.

The board also in another ruling suspended the license of a pharmaceutical practitioner after finding him guilty of impersonating a student during exams.

The practitioner was handed a three year ban after having participated in an exam administered by the board in May, 2024.

‘’Their licenses were suspended after being found guilty of impersonating a student during the Board’s May 2024 examination series,’’ the statement read in part.

The decisions to suspend the four, came from the board’s disciplinary committee’s decision after a review of their written confessions and evidence before the committee.

‘’After a thorough review of the facts and your written confessions, the Board concludes that your actions represent a serious breach of trust and integrity,’’ the board added.

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board assured Kenyans over their commitment to regulate the profession to protect the bigger public health interest.
