Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo to Face Second Impeachment Motion

Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo, is set to face a second impeachment starting Tuesday, September 10. 

Nyaribo finds himself on the ropes again after the County Assembly of Nyamira approved the impeachment proceedings instituted against him today.

In the impeachment motion seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Speaker of the County approved the notice that called for the motion against Nyaribo to be heard from 2:30 pm. 

The motion was filed by Evans Juma a member of the County Assembly, on the grounds of gross violation of the Constitution of Kenya. The Governor is accused of high handedness and gross misconduct.

In October 2023, Governor Nyaribo survived an impeachment attempt. In the motion, 16 MCAs voted for his ouster while 18 voted against it.

In August 2024, a section of Nyamira Residents filed a petition to have the devolved unit disbanded.

The residents claimed that the county leadership had failed in their mandate to deliver services to them

Governor Nyaribo, was accused of drawing a hefty Ksh.6.5 Million monthly, a figure he explained comprised pending arrears accrued from his time as deputy governor.

Governor Nyaribo rose to the helm of Nyamira County almost 4 years ago after the demise of the Late Governor John Nyangarama on December 18, 2020.

The deputy governor was then sworn in as acting governor for the rest of the term.

Governor Nyaribo doubles up as the leader of the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) which boasts of having clinched the most seats in the Nyamira County Assembly.

In recent months, Governor Nyaribo has also found himself having to explain his leadership to the youth as his young constituents continued to stage protests demanding accountability.
