Four Nyamira County residents on Thursday petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) seeking to suspend Nyamira County Government.

In a letter addressed to the electoral body, the duo called on IEBC to permit them to collect signatures from members of the public to suspend the operations of Nyamira County.

The petitioners accused Governor Amos Nyaribo's administration of engaging in corrupt activities including mismanagement of county funds

IEBC was also asked to allow for the suspension of Nyaribo's administration for failing to pay county employees on time, an affair that the petitioners claimed derailed the morale of the county workers.

“The whole system of human resource management in Nyamira County is in chaos owing to a lack of a proper human resource management policy,” the petitioners claimed

Governor Nyaribo was further accused of paying himself a hefty salary to the tune of Ksh6 million thus contravening his set salary threshold.

"The net effect of this impropriety is that financial resources that could have been expended on the development agenda for the people are diverted for the benefit of the governor," the petitioners claimed.

The electoral body was also urged to permit the move following the county government's failure to dispatch basic equipment, drugs and other basic amenities to hospitals.

According to the petitioners, traders in Nyamira County have for the last three months boycotted taxes due to the failure of the county government to deliver critical services to them.

Nyaribo was also accused of allocating 70 per cent of all revenue collected by the county government to payment of salaries leaving nothing for development expenditure.

The county governor was further accused of failing to conduct public participation in critical county projects before initiating county projects.

"The foregoing grievances and many more improprieties meet the threshold of exceptional circumstances as contemplated," read part of the letter to IEBC.
