First daughter Charlene Ruto on Saturday blasted a Kenyan calling for her father's resignation following recent developments in the country.
Charlene Ruto, taking to her X account, assured Kenyans that President Ruto had no plans of resigning soon despite pressure from a section of the population that he should step down. "He (President William Ruto) will stay in the State House. Nothing personal," Charlene commented.
The first daughter was compelled to respond to a comment by an online user who challenged her on when her father was planning to leave the top seat. "We are just trying to have President Ruto and you out of State House. Nothing personal," commented the Kenyan.
Charlene further dismissed allegations that her organisation was funded by Kenyans eyeing favours from her father. According to her, nobody knew where she acquired the funds to run her organisation.
She went ahead to set the record straight, stating that she would still be able to run her organisation even if Ruto were not the Head of State. "You have no clue about the people and organizations who support me. If my father wasn't President, I would be," Charlene argued.
The heated social media debate erupted hours after the first daughter flagged a post alleging that she had been appointed to a government position by President Ruto.
The fake gazette notice falsely claimed that the president had appointed his daughter as Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation for three years effective October 2024.
“Guys...c'mon...seriously?? Let’s Stop Fake News! And looks like whoever is pushing this doesn't know William Ruto. He believes in giving equal, fair and transparent leadership opportunities to as many Kenyans as possible, so trust me, this he would not do,” the first daughter posted.
According to Charlene, she could not have been appointed to Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho's ministry since the alleged position did not fall under her interests.
"Of all the things, mining? Not even youth? Or agriculture? Just so that you know it is fake! I didn't wait for anyone to give me an appointment or position, I am creating my path Plus...my name is Chelagat, not Chelangat," Charlene clarified.
Charlene's job clarification followed hours after the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy refuted the allegations of the First Daughter landing the position in question.
The Ministry in a statement, flagged the gazette notice as fake and shared the authentic notice which showed Joseph Kipchumba Lagat was the actual appointee.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 25 (1) (a) of the Mining Act, 2016, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- JOSEPH KIPCHUMBA LAGAT to be the Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation, for three (3) years, with effect from October 4, 2024,” read the original gazette notice.
