The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a statement notifying Kenyans of a traffic disruption on Mombasa Road (A8) near Panari Hotel.
The traffic disruption will last from Tuesday October 29 till Friday November 22 in what will be a big blow to motorists who ply that route.
The disruption will be occasioned by road construction works as they aim to improve the transport network in that side of the city.
“This is to allow for realignment of the road and construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation at the median between the Mombasa bound lanes and the Nairobi Expressway fence.” the notice read in part.
While announcing the disruption, the roads authority also provided an alternative route for motorists to be using during that period.
An image attached to the notice showcasing the plan indicates that the construction will take place on the outermost lanes of Mombasa Road (Nairobi and Mombasa bound sections).
On the Nairobi bound section, construction will take place along Simba Corporation building and Aldrich Property Consultants.
The Mombasa bound section construction will take place along Ramis Center and the Panari Hotel.
KeNHA has advised motorists to drive at 40 kilometers per hour as they will be driving on a narrow road.
This new development comes after Kenya and the US recently inked a deal worth 3.6 billion dollars for the construction of a Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway; the Usahihi Expressway.
The 473-km road project was birthed from a Public-Private Partnership between the Kenyan government, the private sector and American Development Finance partners institutions. It was approved for the development phase earlier this year by the Public-Private Partnership committee.
The 4-6 dual lane expressway seeks to reduce heavy congestion and slow speeds between the two cities and is set to be the largest toll road project in Africa.
