Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor on Tuesday revealed the cause of death of slain Human Resource (HR) Manager Willis Ayieko.
While addressing journalists at a press conference, Oduor disclosed that a post mortem revealed that the slain manager died of head injuries which led to bleeding in his brain.
“There were injuries to the head and what we found was bleeding oozing from the scalp and bleeding in the brain,” he pointed out.
Willis was found dead on Wednesday, October 23, several days after he went missing after attending a burial in the North Gem in Siaya County.
Hours before his death, the victim’s vehicle, a Ford Ranger, was found abandoned in Sabatia, Vihiga county.
This new development comes after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that they had arrested a man suspected to be involved in the murder. The suspect was arrested at his hideout in Nairobi's Dandora Phase IV on Monday October 28 night.
The family of Willis had lamented about the gruesome nature of the death of their loved one and claimed that it was premeditated murder.
"He was cut. Eyes were gouged out, ears were cut, the nose was cut, the mouth was cut. Why die such a painful death?" questioned the deceased's brother while speaking to journalists.
However, Dr Odour disputed these claims and stated that the inflicted injuries were as a result of animal predation rather than torture.
“We found some missing tissues on the face, around the mouth, ears, cheek and chest. Initially, when looking at them, we thought that this person was undergoing some form of torture. But upon further examination, we think this is what we call animal predation.” the pathologist pointed out.
The victim’s body was found near a stream with his hands handcuffed. Dr. Odour corroborated this by stating that there were bruises on the victim’s wrist and attributed the missing tissues to ‘nibbling’ by fish and crabs.
“We found some bruises on the wrist which was due to the victim being in handcuffs when he was found. We think that some fish and crabs in the water body the victim was found nibbled at some of the soft tissues of the body. We actually found a dead crab in the clothes of the victim.”
The DCI are currently conducting investigations to determine the motive behind Mr. Ayieko’s alleged murder and are analyzing crucial leads to uncover and arrest other accomplices.
