Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have cornered two more suspects believed to be part of a gang that participated in the gruesome murder of Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko.
The officers arrested the suspects following an impromptu operation carried out by the detectives at the Wagai area of Gem, Siaya County, on Tuesday night.
Speaking to the press, Siaya DCI coordinator Lenny Kisaka revealed that the operation was launched after detectives received a notification about a scheme by a group of individuals who were planning to orchestrate a robbery along the Luanda-Siaya route.
Upon receiving the information, the officers quickly placed a roadblock along the highway. However, the gang which was plying the same route using a personal vehicle declined to stop at the roadblock, prompting officers to search them.
It was during the search that the officers managed to recover a gun that the officers believed was reportedly used in the murder of the Wells Fargo HR manager.
During the confrontations, the officers exchanged fire with the alleged criminals who attempted to escape the police trap. While the third suspect escaped with a gun, the duo were apprehended and taken to the Siaya DCI headquarters for further interrogation.
Yesterday evening's arrest followed hours after DCI officers nabbed the first suspect in the murder of Willis Ayieko. The suspect was flushed out of his hideout in Nairobi's Dandora Phase IV on Monday night where he had rented a house.
The suspect who is currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station was placed in custody after a forensic-led investigation conducted by a joint team of DCI's Homicide officers and operations detectives.
"The investigation is ongoing with the team analyzing crucial leads to uncover and arrest other accomplices," the DCI officers noted even as they urged Kenyans with critical information that could lead to the arrest of the other suspects to avail the details.
Meanwhile, an autopsy conducted on the body of the deceased revealed that Willis Ayieko died as a result of excessive bleeding caused by severe head injuries.
The autopsy was conducted at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor further highlighted that the deceased also suffered wrist injuries caused by the handcuff found on him.
"There was bleeding on the brain, other than that, there were bruises on the wrist caused by the cuffs found on him. There were also missing ties on the eyes, ears, and mouth," the government pathologist noted.
