In yet another femicide case, detectives drawn from the Kasarani Police Station have launched a manhunt for a man who reportedly stabbed his girlfriend in Kahawa West, Nairobi.
On Friday, November 1, the officers discovered the body of a woman inside a three-bedroom house lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds believed to have been inflicted by her lover.
Detectives who spoke to the press about the incident reported that they found the body of the middle-aged woman lying on the floor of the house. During the probe, the officers managed to identify the owner of the house where the murder incident allegedly took place.
According to the officers, after committing the heinous crime, the suspect allegedly switched off his phone and went into hiding. Police officers probing the matter recovered a knife believed to be the murder weapon used to commit the crime.
After preliminary investigations, the body of the deceased was taken to the Kenyatta Memorial Home awaiting postmortem even as the investigations into the murder continue.
In the footage shared online, the woman's bed was recorded having drops of blood before the police officers arrived at the scene and subsequently picked up the body which was placed inside the police van and ferried to the hospital.
Similarly, the locals were captured standing outside the apartment as they stared at the police officers wrapping the deceased body in a cream sheet for transportation to the mortuary.
The latest incident adds to the list of femicide cases reported in the country in recent weeks. The tragic occurrence comes against the backdrop of President William Ruto's directive to DCI officers, where he ordered them to probe all feminicide cases and bring culprits to book.
Speaking during Deputy President Kithure Kindiki's swearing-in ceremony at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Friday, November 1, President Ruto ordered the DCI officers to work closely with other security agencies and investigate the matter to finality.
While addressing the matter, Ruto emphasised the government's commitment to ending cases of femicide in the country, adding that the government would deal decisively with those found culpable of committing the heinous crime.
"I know that recently, we have seen incidents of our girls, our mothers, and women who have been murdered in cold blood. Let me say this, the DCI and all the investigative authorities in Kenya must stand up to these criminals," Ruto commented
"I want to ask Kenyans to be careful with people, particularly strangers who lure girls and women to situations that compromise their security. We must be on the lookout as a nation, this is yet another moment, another beginning," the Head of State added.
