Two people reportedly lost their lives on the morning of Sunday, November 3, after their car rammed into a footbridge along the Thika Superhighway.
The early morning accident saw the silver car lose control before crashing into the footbridge in Ruiru. One other person reportedly sustained serious injuries from the crash.
Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the extent of the crash with the car completely mangled from the impact with the heavy-metal bridge.
Videos of the aftermath also revealed the car somehow flew past the road barriers, colliding with the blue bridge in the process.
The fact that the car was wrecked beyond recognition indicates that the driver might have been driving at extremely high speeds.
Witnesses at the scene recall seeing the wreckage as early as 5:00 am, indicating the accident happened in the wee hours.
This was the second accident along Thika Road in less than one week and it follows another harrowing incident in the Ndarugo Area in Thika, Kiambu County.
On Wednesday, October 30, a lorry collided with a new private Nissan car, resulting in the loss of lives.
That accident saw the lorry overturn and occupy several lanes, leading to a major traffic snarl that extended to High Point.
It has since emerged that the Nissan van involved in the gristly accident was brand new and was making its way from Mombasa to Wiyumiririe in Laikipia County.
in a separate incident, several people narrowly escaped death after the bus they were travelling in was rear-ended by a trailer whose brakes failed along the Bungoma-Malaba road.
The incident left a string of damage in its wake as several other trailers rammed into each other while trying to avoid the initial accident.
