Kenya Airports Authority Managing Director Henry Ogoye was fined Ksh500,000 by the Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities for allegedly failing to honour summons.

The committee chairperson Adan Haji revealed that Ogoye had been slapped with the fine after missing four successive meetings.

Part of the reason for his summons was to answer queries on employment diversity at the state agency, among other issues.

"We have acted in accordance with Article 191 A (1) which compels the committee to impose a fine on such an absentee witness," Haji, who is also the Mandera West MP, stated.

The committee's meeting on Thursday also saw angry reactions from members who faulted Ogoye for blatantly snubbing summons.

"This is the fourth time the MD is skipping Committee meetings. We have taken stern action against him to serve as an example to other senior government officers who ignore invites by the Committee for accountability," Haji added.

One member of the committee - Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo -  issued Ogoye a warning in his absence, saying the committee would not tolerate 'disrespect'.

What seemed to aggravate the MPs was the fact that the MD found time to appear before a different committee while snubbing the Cohesion Committee meetings at the same time.

Ogoye was appointed as KAA's Managing Director in October 2023 in an acting capacity to replace Alex Gitari whose contract was terminated.

In June, an advertisement from KAA revealed the MD would be employed on a three-year contract.

Before transitioning to his role as acting MD, Ogoye was among the top managers at KAA and served as Head of Corporate Planning and Strategy.

In his role, his key functions included coordinating the strategic planning of the organisation, which helped the management of the KAA make key decisions over its operations.
