A suspect has been arrested in connection to the brutal murder of a journalist in Kahawa West, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed.

The main suspect in the murder was apprehended in the Kaanwa area of Tharaka Nithi county, four days after the body of Lilian Achieng Aluko was discovered in a house in Kahawa West, Nairobi.

Authorities from the DCI headquarters colluded with their counterparts in Meru County to flush out the suspect, whose moves have been tracked since he vanished on November 1.

The suspect is believed to be the lover of the slain and Achieng, with authorities uncovering more details on what could have led to the murder.

"Probing the case, police found out that the two lovebirds had on a fateful night had a good time at a local establishment before retreating to the boyfriend's place of aboard in Kahawa West," a statement from the DCI read.

In attempting to piece together what transpired on November 1, the slain lady was in the company of the key suspect at a local establishment before the pair retreated to his house in Kahawa West.

What happened next remains scanty, although neighbours recount hearing loud screams from the suspect's house, which was also playing loud music. It is believed the music was meant to drown the late Achieng's cries for help.

Hours later, Achieng, a promising radio presenter, was discovered as her lifeless body lay in the suspect's house. He was nowhere to be seen.

Authorities observed that the journalist was found with visible facial injuries and a stab wound behind her right ear.

Interestingly, the suspect left the murder weapon - a knife -  at the scene which authorities collected as evidence.

The suspect is currently being held in Kararani, awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
