Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is slowly settling into the DP's Karen home and executing his new office's duties weeks after his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, unceremoniously departed.
Kindiki chaired his first Cabinet meeting in Karen on Tuesday, November 12, days after he was sworn in as the country's second most powerful leader.
Taking to his official X, the DP revealed that he met several cabinet secretaries who are members of the Cabinet Committee on Governance, Social Sector, and Public Administration.
“Chaired the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Governance, Social Sector, and Public Administration at the official Karen Residence.” the DP announced to the public.
Cabinet Secretaries present in the meeting included Treasury CS John Mbadi, Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba, Water CS Eric Muriithi Mugaa, and Beatrice Askul Moe of the East African Community, ASALs, and Regional Development.
Others were Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), Soipan Tuya (Defence), Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social Protection), Debra Barasa (Health), Dorcas Oduor (Attorney General), and Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau.
Kindiki was sworn in as Deputy President on November 1 following the removal of Rigathi Gachagua through impeachment.
National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula announced Gachagua's removal after 282 Members of Parliament voted in favor of an impeachment motion against him tabled by Kibwezi MP Mwengi Mutuse.
Gachagua, who was subsequently ejected as United Democratic Alliance (UDA) deputy leader, was accused of 11 charges including gross misconduct, a gross violation of the Constitution, and undermining the president among others.
Kindiki moved into the Karen home, which is the official residence of the holder of the Office of DP. Ruto also stayed in the house while he served as DP.
During his stay, Gachagua used Ksh660 million to renovate the Karen residence, arguing that it was a symbol of the Kenyan leadership and couldn't stay looking tacky.
"We found broken taps, while most things were not working," Gachagua told the National Assembly while defending himself during the impeachment grilling.
The meeting between the CSs and DP Kindiki revolved around enhancing governance for a more inclusive and effective public administration and service delivery.
