The police on Wednesday evening arrested a 25-year-old man believed to have murdered his 21-year-old wife after her body was found decomposing in his home in Kasit in Baringo North.

Authorities suspect the incident was linked to a deadly love triangle and alleged betrayal which has since left a quiet village in Baringo reeling in shock and fear.

The decaying body was found inside the home of her husband after neighbours raised alarm after an overpowering stench emerged from the house. The neighbours broke down his door on Tuesday evening only to discover the decomposing body.

The body was found dumped on the floor with a rope tied to the neck suggesting a likelihood the suspect strangled his wife to death.

Following the discovery, the police were called in and immediately arrested the 25-year-old suspect, a watchman at a local primary school.

The man who had one child with his wife before the tragic incident is said to have confessed to his uncle over the murder after the body was discovered.

Baringo North police commander Mohamed Abdi confirmed the incident stating that preliminary investigations indicate the victim may have been killed days before.

“We arrested the main suspect and his in police custody to help in investigations that are underway,” the police boss stated.

This latest incident comes barely two days after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Tuesday arrested the suspect behind the gruesome murder of his 24-year-old wife in the Mugirirwa area of Chuka in Meru South.

Cases of femicide in the country have increased in the past with the latest statistics from the National Police Service (NPS) indicating that in the last three months, 97 women were killed in femicide cases a slight increase from the same period last year.

Human rights groups in the country have been mounting pressure calling on the government to contain the rising femicide cases. The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) on October 29 urged President William Ruto to consider declaring femicide a national crisis following the troubling rise of femicide cases, asking DCI to step up measures to bring perpetrators to book.
