Veteran sports journalist Carol Radull has made a comeback to radio after a two-year hiatus.

In a move that has been warmly received, Spice FM announced on their X handle that Radull was set to host the Playground Show with her famous co-presenters Kieni Githinji and Roy Karuhize. The crew gained fame while at Classic 105.

“The biggest sports show in Kenya is here with Carol Radull, Kieni Githinji, and Roy Karuhize,” the post read.

Radull is set to return to the radio booth after a break of two years and expressed her excitement at her return.

“People, we have been off air for two years. Make a date with us 2-6pm LIVE on Spice FM to talk sports or just be entertained,” she stated in an X post.

Radull’s last radio job was at Radio Africa, where she had worked for two decades, rising through the ranks from a news reporter to a senior management position. Radull gained popularity as a host on the Score Kenya show, where she demonstrated her extensive sports knowledge and great ability to debate sports issues.

The veteran sports journalist is said to have left Radio Africa in acrimonious circumstances after a change in the company’s employment policy led to her contract not being renewed. In her latter years at the company, Radull was switched to a managerial position that went against Radull’s passions.

“While I respect all the opportunities I got at Radio Africa, most of them management opportunities, I never believed I was designed to push papers and write reports. Being on the radio was and still is my first… no, second love after the theatre,” she said in her farewell post.

Besides working in Radio Africa, Radull also worked for the Nation Media Group as a sports presenter as well as a producer on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BCC). She has also worked as a producer at Reuters.

Radull’s presence in Kenyan sports extends beyond the media space as she has been a great champion for local sports. She founded an initiative known as ‘Jaza Stadi’ which encourages people to attend local sports events and support local sports.

In addition, Radull has been vocal about the plight of local sportspersons. Recently, she highlighted the plight of the Kenya women’s amputee football team that was stranded in Germany while on their way back home after taking part in the 2024 Women’s Amputee Football World Cup.

Radull also came to the aid of legendary Kenyan boxer Conjestina Achieng by facilitating her rehabilitation after a battle with mental health challenges.
