Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi was on Monday, November 18, charged in court for his actions dating back to June 2024 at the height of the anti-Finance Bill protests.

While appearing before Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi, the comedian was charged with creating chaos - charges which he denied.

According to Omondi's chargesheet, he was accused of 'creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace' on June 4.

At the time, he famously rallied small-time businesswomen known as 'Mama Mboga' to block vehicles by pouring kales on Parliament Road.

The comedian was subsequently arrested on Friday, November 15, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he was gearing up to take a flight to Dar es Salaam.

"I have been arrested at JKIA just before I boarded a flight to Dar es Salaam...Upon handing over my passport, the immigration officers informed me that there was a stop order and that I could not travel and I have to be detained," he shared on Friday.

Omondi, who cut a stressed figure when he entered court on Friday was released on a Ksh 5000 cash bail.

This was the latest woe surrounding the celebrated comedian, and it came a month after he attempted to hold a parallel celebration of Mashujaa Day.

On October 20, the comedian's partner claimed he had gone missing after he shared a cryptic message on his social media page suggesting he had been arrested hours after attempting to infiltrate Uhuru Park with a group of his followers.

Several other big names also clashed with police officers, including human rights activist and lawyer Hussein Khalid. Videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke also showed some attendees at Uhuru Park in running battles with police officers.

Away from taking on the government, the comedian has single-handedly won the hearts of thousands of Kenyans thanks to his 'Sisi kwa Sisi' initiative -  a funds drive that he uses to aid Kenyans in need.

Recently, Eric Omondi went viral for raising over KSh 1 million for a needy high school student who was spotted online decrying his parents' inability to raise his school tuition.
