The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on Wednesday, November 20, announced that it had released currencies with new features into circulation.
In a press statement, CBK revealed that it had extended the new features to all the other denominations to complement the August rollout of the Ksh1,000 denomination.
The new currencies containing four new features were extended to the Ksh50, Ksh100, and Ksh200 as well as the Ksh500 notes.
''We wish to update the public that the release of KES 50, KES 100, KES 200 and KES 500 denominations is now in progress,’’ CBK announced.
Among the new features in the notes include the signature of the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Kamau Thugge, and the year of print, which is 2024.
The new notes also include new security threads with colour-changing effects specific to each denomination.
Additionally, the signature of the Principal Secretary of the National Treasury, Chris Kiptoo, is included, a feature that marked an exodus from the old notes that did not have the PS signature.
''The signature of the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr Kamau Thugge, and the signature of the Principal Secretary, National Treasury, Dr Chris Kiptoo as well as the year of print - 2024,’’ added the notice.
However, CBK reminded members of the public to be on the watchout as other features of the Kenyan currency remained the same.
''Other than the changes highlighted above, all other features of the banknotes remain the same as those of the series issued in 2019,'' CBK added.
CBK at the same time cast out doubts that some Kenyans might have in regards to the money in circulation, asserting that notes with old features will still be in use.
''We also would like to draw to the public's attention that all other banknotes currently in circulation remain legal tender and will continue to circulate alongside the released banknotes,''
