NTV reporter Ngina Kirori has landed a position in the prestigious Reuters Journalism Fellowship, one of the most sought-after training programmes in media.
This programme will run for one year, from January to December next year.
In a statement confirming the news, an excited Kirori expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her on her journey.
‘’Your girl is off to Oxford. A product of guidance and support from colleagues, friends, and family plus lots of passion and stubbornness about a project I have wanted to research since I started this beautiful profession. Excited for what lies ahead!’’ Kirori shared.
She further revealed that she has always been excited to pursue future endeavours in media research.
"I'm beyond grateful and excited to be able to tackle a project that I have been passionate about since I started journalism! More so, at an institute as prestigious as Reuters under the University of Oxford, which has a track record of excellence and thoroughness," she added.
The TV girl will be pursuing the Reuters Journalism Fellowship under the auspices of Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
It remains unclear whether or not Ngina will be leaving the Nation Media Group (NMG) with the one-year break, or she will be making appearances with reports from across the United Kingdom.
The Reuters Journalism Fellowship is a programme by the Thomas Reuters Institute that gives learning opportunities to practicing and mid-career journalists to study their profession in depth.
Individuals who benefit from the opportunity are fully funded and also receive other incentives like accommodation and living costs.
Currently, according to the Reuters Institute, the program accepts around 30 journalist fellows from around the world each year, with Kirori being lucky enough to land a spot.
Kirori is an investigative journalist at NTV with various awards already to her name. Notable among them include the 12th edition of the council’s Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (Ajea) where she won the Best Investigative Story award.
Before joining NTV, Kirori served as a communications officer at Eddahs Hope Cancer Foundation and a journalist at Zam Zam publication.
