All ODM candidates who wish to appeal the results of the just concluded grassroots elections will be required to pay Ksh3,000 within 24 hours after the results are declared to have their appeal heard.
In an official statement dated Thursday, November 27, ODM's National Election Coordinating Committee (NEC) chairperson Emily Awita revealed that all candidates who will be aggrieved by the results should file a formal complaint through the party's online portal.
The party, however, revealed to the candidates that it has extended the date for the appeal to Friday.
"Each appellant will be required to pay a fee of Ksh3000 within 24 hours of the declaration of the results. We have since extended the limit date for appeals to by close of business tomorrow Friday, November 29, 2024," the statement signed by Awita read.
Issuing an update on the elections ODM termed the election as successful in 98 per cent of the regions. According to the party, only registered members were allowed to vote.
"We are pleased to report that the exercise went on smoothly in more than 98% of the polling units. Voting was by registered members only," part of the statement read.
The party has, however, rubbished claims that members of the party were forced to vote by consensus.
According to Awita, the party has two ways of voting; by way of consensus where members sit down and agree on the distribution of positions, or by show of hand which is the event the members fail to agree on the first model, most of the members opted for voting by consensus.
"Media reports that members were forced to go the consensus way are false, misleading, and aimed at causing disharmony in the party," the party continued.
The grassroots elections were conducted in all the 47 counties in the country. According to the party, the elections were smooth, and only a few regions were marred by chaos, which will ensure culprits face the law.
The party has revealed to its candidates that it has started receiving the results from various parts of the country, with the reception facing network challenges slowing it down.
So far, the party has confirmed receiving results from 25 counties including Mandera, Mombasa, Lamu Wajir, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kilifi, Siaya, Homa Bay, Busia, and Kisumu.
