The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has flagged a notice purporting to hire nurses for an internship program as fake.
“Beware of fraudulent nursing internship advertisements promising unrealistic benefits. Always verify the program's legitimacy with accredited institutions,” the accompanying statement by the hospital read on X read.
“Report any suspicious ads to protect yourself and others. Stay vigilant to safeguard your career.”
The circular outlined basic requirements that sought to entice applicants to make the move and apply.
For instance, it stated that the basic salary for interns would be Ksh31,000 a month as well as the availability of advance salaries.
The ad also required the applicants to have a KRA PIN, NSSF and NHIF, National ID, medical letter and Certificate of Good Conduct.
It did not mention any requirements for a nursing degree or diploma.
Other requirements listed in the ad were the responsibilities required of them including guiding patients and clients who might need help and portraying a good picture of the firm.
It also expected the applicants to be role models to individuals and colleagues.
They were also expected to ensure that all hospital equipment and medicine were well arranged.
A glaring red flag was that the Email address and contacts provided were not affiliated with the hospital.
No clear instructions had been given on the application process either and the timeline of the application was not indicated.
