National Police Service Commission (NPSC) on Sunday, August 6, warned Kenyans of a fraudulent mass recruitment advertisement circulating on various social media platforms.

The NPSC stated that the advertisement was fake and did not originate from their official channels.

Kenyans were advised to ignore the misleading post, which aimed to deceive individuals into believing in non-existent job opportunities.

The National Police Service (NPS) is a major employer in Kenya, and its recruitment exercises have historically offered job opportunities to thousands of unemployed Kenyans.

Historically, their recruitment exercises have been known to offer positions to over 5,000 jobless Kenyans in a single hiring event

The majority of fake adverts in Kenya aim to swindle people out of their hard-earned money.

"Kindly take note that the Commission is not undertaking any recruitment" read part of the Commission's response.

The job advert falsely claimed that the commission had opened its application portal, which contradicts the police service's standard recruitment procedures.

Typically, legitimate nationwide recruitment exercises are announced in widely circulated newspapers, and the designated recruitment centers across the country are also announced to facilitate the application process.

Legitimate police positions are advertised on the National Police Service (NPS) website. Civilian jobs such as accounting and driving are also advertised on the same website.

Unfortunately, there have been instances in the recent past where fraudsters have targeted Kenyans, demanding money in exchange for participation in fake recruitment exercises.

Scammers have been known to request amounts as low as Ksh2,500 from unsuspecting individuals.
