Former nominated MCA Carren Atieno Muga was on Saturday arrested in connection to the mayhem that saw a suspect lynched by an irate mob that stormed a police station in Chemase, Nandi County.

On January 3, an irate mob stormed Chemase Police Station in Nandi and flushed out a murder suspect before stoning, beheading him and setting his body on fire.

In a bizarre twist, the mob went back to the police post, vandalised it, and set it ablaze, an incident which left three police officers injured.

Days after the incident, the former nominated MCA Atieno Muga, was arrested along the Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu road, with police linking her to an organ-harvesting syndicate.

The former MCA is believed to be the mother of one of the prime suspects in the gruesome murder of Enock Kipsang.

According to authorities, the former MCA was attempting to flee out of fear of being lynched by irate members of the public. Her vehicle, a Toyota Harrier, was also seized as an exhibit.

Kipsang, 38, was killed and his body dismembered, with his remains being discovered on the roadside. His head was discovered in a borehole, while his private parts were chopped off.

The incident spread fast across Tinderet constituency, with over 3000 angry locals assembling at the Chemase Police Post, baying for blood.

Before Victor Kimtai was lynched by the irate mob, he had blown the cover on the organ-harvesting syndicate and threatened to neutralize his family members.

His mother then moved to alert local officials, who would arrest Kimtai soon after.

Police further revealed they recovered the National and Kenya Police Service flags stolen from the police station after the invasion by irate residents.

"We are closing in on the other prime suspects in the matter herein, as the case is the pending arrest of known accused with DCI Tinderet dealing," a statement from NPS said.

The January 3 incident has since prompted a meeting between Deputy Inspectors General Mr. Eliud Lagat (Kenya Police) and Mr. Gilbert Masengeli (Administration Police) who recently held a meeting with security Senior NPS officers from all the sub-counties within Nandi in a bid to push for peaceful coexistence among area locals.
