Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has decried alleged oppression by the government, claiming that the state is yet to reinstate his driver and security details.
Speaking while presiding over the Trans Nzoia Jamhuri Day celebrations, Natembeya claimed that he had nothing to celebrate on the national holiday.
The governor claimed that he is a "walking prisoner" persecuted for his actions of criticising the government.
"I am a walking prisoner; my security and driver were withdrawn because I am talking truth to power," the governor claimed.
However, Natembeya celebrated his misfortunes, claiming that he will be remembered as a hero who stood by the people in years to come.
"One day, when we are all long gone, you will call a Jamhuri Day to celebrate that there was once a man by the name Natembeya in this world," Natembeya claimed.
The governor said that his oppressors, unlike him, shall not be remembered for anything after their terms in office ends.
'Governors Fear Ruto'
The leader of the 'TAWE' movement could not resist attacking his colleague governors for failing to stand up against President Ruto during the 12th National Government and County Governments Coordinating Summit, held on December 10, 2025, at the State House.
Natembeya alleged that after the summit, the governors went on their WhatsApp group and began discussing things that they felt the president should have addressed, things that the governor said should have been raised during the summit.
"There was a meeting of governors with the president. When they left the meeting, they started discussing in the WhatsApp group what they should have discussed with the president because none of them could stand and say the truth," Natembeya claimed.
Ikolomani Gold
The governor also reiterated his stance against the eviction of the Ikolomani residents from their ancestral land that has been recently discovered with gold.
Natembeya also claimed that some Kenyans are parading as foreigners to harvest the gold at the expense of the Ikolomani residents.
The governor has been a voice of the opposition in the Western region, countering the influence of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula
