The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth Leadership of Westlands Chapter on Wednesday came out to condemn the attack meted out on Kitusuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) Alvin Olando.

In a press briefing, the youths linked the attack of the MCA with his spirited refusal to accept corrupt practices in the Nairobi City County.

According to Olando who spoke after the incident, developers were being coerced into paying bribes for building approvals, and his refusal to comply led to the assault in Nairobi's CBD.

Led by their leader, Evans Ochieng, the youths condemned the attack terming it as a heinous and cowardly act that undermines democracy and the rule of law.

"As youth, we reject and denounce all forms of political thuggery and violence. Such cowardly actions are unacceptable and have no place in a progressive society like ours," Ochieng stated, urging authorities to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

The ODM Youth Leadership urged swift and decisive action, calling on relevant security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

"We call upon law enforcement agencies to investigate and ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law. This attack is not just on Olando but on the principles of democracy and good governance," the ODM youth warned.

The attack, which occurred in Nairobi’s Central Business District, left the MCA with injuries to his head, hand and mouth. He was, however, treated and discharged from Aga Khan Hospital.

The incident occurred near the former Seamers Club in Nairobi, where a group of around seven young men attacked the MCA.

The attack has since drawn backlash from leaders and organizations. On Tuesday, Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi condemned the assault, describing it as barbaric and a violation of democratic principles.

Nairobi MCAs have equally expressed outrage, with Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai listing individuals within Nairobi City County he believes were behind the heinous attack.

"We will not be silenced or intimidated. Criticizing the governor for failing Nairobians is our duty as leaders, and we will continue to stand firm," Alai remarked.

Kariobangi MCA Joel Munuve added that such acts of violence are not isolated, recounting his own experience of being attacked by goons during the opening of Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital last year.

The youth leaders also called for political tolerance and an end to violence, stressing the importance of dialogue and respect for divergent views in fostering unity and progress.
