The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced that the second phase of grassroots elections will be held on April 11 and 12 in 22 counties.
In a statement by the party's National Election Board (NEB) chairperson, Antony Mwaura, the party outlined the 22 counties set to hold the elections on the two days.
"The National Election Board of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) hereby issues an official notice regarding the Phase II polling center-level grassroots elections scheduled for 11th & 12th of April, 2025," part of the notice read.
Mwaura further listed 11 counties for each of the two election days.
On Friday, April 11, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Turkana, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu Counties will conduct their elections.
Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River Counties, on the other hand, will hold their elections on Saturday, April 12.
He concluded the notice by urging all interested candidates to register, stating, "All aspirants and participants are notified that registration is now open and ongoing."
This comes eight months after UDA suspended grassroots elections in 14 counties due to the deadly anti-finance bill demonstrations that rocked the nation in June and July 2024.
"The National Election Board of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) hereby issues this formal notice regarding the grassroots election originally scheduled to occur on the 28th and 29th of June, 2024," the notice on June 26, 2024, read in part.
"Due to unavoidable circumstances, the Board has determined that it is necessary to postpone the aforementioned grassroots election."
Counties affected by this announcement included Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Kwale, Kitui, and Garissa.
In last year's grassroots elections in April, the party faced significant challenges, including glitches in the system, despite the process costing the party up to Ksh200 million.
In another bizarre outcome, allegations surfaced that deceased individuals had been allocated on ballots and were winning elections.
