The son of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has narrated the last moments he spent with his father before his unfortunate demise.

Speaking during his burial service at Chebukati's home in Sabatia-Kiminini Constituency, Emmanuel Chebukati described his father as a brave and jovial man.

Emmanuel shared the last words he got from his father with the mourners who had joined the family in giving the former chair his last respects.

Emmanuel had just gotten back to the country from a conference in Spain, and he had come back with an authentic Spanish hat that the Spanish wear during bullfighting competitions and placed it on top of his father's head.

"I gave him the hat, and I put it on top of his head, and he immediately said to me, 'I feel like a bullfighter already,' and then he went on to say, 'Nobody can mess with me when I am in my bullfighting hat,'" Emmanuel narrated.

According to Emmanuel, the brave and no-nonsense Chebukati with a brave bullfighting hat is the Chebukati the world knew, but he was very different as a father, husband, and brother.

"But through my eyes and the eyes of the family members seated here, you will see him as simply the best father, husband, and brother you'll ever have. It is said that if you think Chebukati is tough and doesn't smile, then you don't know Chebukati," he revealed.

Eulogizing their father, all three children, Emmanuel, Jonathan, and Rachel, hailed him as the best father who guided them well during their growing years, promising to pass on the skills they learned from him to future generations.

Chebukati lost his life on February 20 after losing the fight to brain cancer.

Before his burial, the government issued strict guidelines to ensure a peaceful and dignified send-off.

To promote a peaceful burial procession, security agents were on high alert to stop any potential disruptions.

No assembly of groups of people in a manner suggesting political interests was allowed, and people dressed in political party regalia were also not allowed.
