Following rising insecurity in Nairobi's Ruaraka estate along Thika Road, President William Ruto on Tuesday directed the Inspector General of Police to rein in the situation and restore normalcy.

Speaking on the second day of his four-day working tour in Nairobi, President Ruto instructed IG Douglas Kanja to gazette Ruaraka Police Station by Friday, March 14, at the latest.

Consequently, Ruto ordered the immediate deployment of additional police officers to the station to curb the rising insecurity, which has seen many residents fall victim to robbery.

"Because of the insecurity in this area, I have directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure that this police station is gazetted by Friday," Ruto stated.

''Equally police officers should be immediately deployed here to protect the property and life of people in this area. That will help the people of Ruaraka to go about their business without distraction,'' he added.

Additionally, President Ruto cautioned Kanja to ensure that the police deployed in the area do not trouble the locals but work hand in hand with them to guarantee safety.

"If the police come here, they should not come here to trouble the citizens and ensure that the youth of Ruaraka and Nairobi can do their work freely," Ruto cautioned.

To bridge the gap in educational amenities, Ruto announced that the national government would allocate a total of Ksh1 billion for the construction of classrooms in all public schools across Nairobi.

Additionally, the President launched the construction of a technical college at Utalii in the nearby Mathare constituency to help residents access more educational opportunities.

The project is set to cost the government a total of Ksh100 million to enable the youth to acquire technical and technological skills, according to Ruto.

"Last year, I gave the MPs of Nairobi an allocation of Ksh1 billion to construct 300 classrooms across Nairobi. We have agreed that I will be adding them an additional allocation of Ksh1 billion to construct other classrooms," Ruto assured.

On housing, Ruto officiated the launch of the construction of 5,000 housing units in Ruaraka, a project set to provide employment opportunities for youths in the area.
