Reverend Isaac Mutuma, the newly sworn-in Meru County Governor pledged to prioritise the welfare of workers and civil servants, acknowledging the challenges they faced under the previous administration by Kawira Mwangaza.

All the workers and civil servants in the county have been promised a better working environment and welfare moving forward as the governor outlined his first agenda to ensure the workers no longer experience the pain they went through before.

Mutuma was sworn in as Meru's new governor on Monday, March 17, after former Governor Kawira Mwangaza lost the battle for the gubernatorial seat in court.

He noted that apart from the people of Meru, workers and civil servants in the county had suffered most during Mwangaza's reign and he was going to change the situation.

"I am aware that as Meru County we have been going through a lot of pains, especially the staff and civil servants who have been facing difficult working environments," Mutuma noted.

"We have discussed several things on how to improve the working environment and from here, the first agenda is to improve the welfare of the workers and civil servants, the second agenda is to deliver developments and services to the people of Meru," the new governor continued.

Governor Mutuma emphasised that his role as Meru's leader was not about personal gain but serving the people.

While reflecting his focus on public service and accountability as he begins his tenure, the governor expressed his commitment to prioritising development and delivering essential services to improve the lives of Meru residents.

This marks a fresh start for the county after the court decided to remove former Governor Mwangaza. It seems like a hopeful shift for both the staff and the community.

After the High Court upheld the senate's decision to impeach Mwangaza as governor, the streets of Meru broke into song and dance as they expressed their joy for her removal.

Many of these residents view the reign of Governor Mutuma as a ray of hope and change from Mwangaza's reign.

On Friday, March 14, Justice Bahati Mwamuye affirmed her impeachment by the Meru County Assembly over gross misconduct, misuse of office, and gross violation of the Constitution.
