However, the vocal legislator had an afternoon to forget as his stay at the stadium was short-lived following an altercation with a section of the crowd.

Videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show Salasya struggling to break free from an irate crowd who roughed him up and forcibly showed him towards the stadium's exit.

At some point, members of the crowd tried grabbing the MP to beat him up, while one unscrupulous supporter hurled what appeared to be a plastic container at the MP.

The drama made its way to the stadium's parking as tens of supporters flocked to the lawmaker, urging him to exit the grounds.

While it is unclear why Salasya was thrown out, some supporters present at the scene could be heard chanting "Respect the President", in an apparent retaliation for what the MP said or did regarding President William Ruto.

President Ruto was present at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as he arrived at the event moments after making a brief cameo after the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Naivasha.

Taking to social media moments after the incident Salasya appeared to aim a dig at his adversaries by simply writing "I didn't want to commit blood in my hands. I had options but I chose peace."

The Salasya drama was just one of several notable events at the Nyayo Stadium prior to the Kenya-Gabon game. In the build-up to the match, hundreds of fans breached security protocol as they took down a gate to enter the stadium.

It is unclear where security personnel were at the time of the incident, although It is suspected that they were overwhelmed by the swelling crowd outside the stadium.

Limited ticket-scanning zones further compounded the challenge facing the security personnel, leading to long queues and heightened frustration among the supporters who legally purchased tickets for the game.
