The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) on Friday, March 28, announced the release of the Business and Technical Courses 2023 examination certificates for Technical, Vocational, and Educational Training (TVET) institutions.
Through a statement, KNEC called upon heads of the institutions or their assistants to collect the crucial certificates spanning three months while issuing three strict guidelines.
“The 2023 March, July, and November 2023 business and technical certificates are ready for collection by heads of institutions or their designated assistants,” KNEC stated.
“Queries on the certificates may be made in writing through the heads of institutions,” the examinations body further added.
Another guideline issued by KNEC directed that queries could also be made online through logging into the KNEC portal and following the instructions.
In addition, KNEC also issued a 60-day ultimatum for submitting the queries, adding that individuals who do not adhere to the set guidelines would risk attracting a penalty fee of Ksh500.
“The queries must reach the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) within sixty (60) days after release of the certificates by KNEC, i.e on or before June 30, 2025,” KNEC asserted.
Business courses offered in TVETs include business management, accounting and finance, human resource management, supply chain and logistics management, and cooperative management.
On the other hand, technical courses consist of various engineering courses such as electrical and electronic, mechanical, civil, automotive, as well as ICT and software development.
Historically, the release of the crucial TVET examination certificates has been marred by significant challenges. While KNEC usually releases results within three to six months after exams, certificates might take six months up to a year, or even more, to be issued.
Some of the challenges faced in the release of the TVET certificates include delays in processing, unpaid fees, accreditation issues, and bureaucracy.
In notable instances, government intervention has been needed to facilitate release of the certificates. In 2023, former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu ordered the immediate release of over 11,000 pending TVET certificates.
