A post-mortem has revealed how Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto passed away, contradicting her alleged killer's narratives.

Government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor announced the post-mortem results on Tuesday, April 8, revealing Kemunto passed away from strangulation, confirming initial suspicion of foul play.

According to Oduor, there were defensive wounds on the deceased's body, indicating a possible struggle with her assailant, who is believed to have overpowered her.

The post-mortem results came just days after Kemunto's lifeless body was discovered in a water tank within the university compound.

Kemunto, a first-year student pursuing a double major in Mass Communication and Computer Science, had been reported missing at the end of March after her mother was unable to reach her.

The uncertainty prompted her to travel to the university, where she was notified that Kemunto had not been seen for days. A search ensued after a missing person report was filed at Lang’ata Police Station, resulting in the discovery of her body.

One suspect, believed to be the 20-year-old's estranged boyfriend, has since been arrested in connection with Kemunto's disappearance and subsequent murder.

The alleged killer, a first-year Electrical Engineering student, surrendered to authorities after days on the run. In the interviews that followed, the suspect admitted to taking the victim's life, although his account differed from the pathology reports.

According to the suspect, a physical altercation with Kemunto ensued after she declined his advances, after which he claimed to have pushed the victim, who allegedly knocked her head on the wall.

The suspect further told authorities that in a panic, he sought to hide the body, which he dumped in a rooftop water tank. Bizarrely, the suspect alleges he briefly stayed with the body in his room before eventually dumping it.

Notably, police investigations also led to the discovery of wires, which were used to seal the tank shut in a deliberate effort to prevent any access after Kemunto's body was disposed of.
