The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, April 11, announced the arrest of an infamous robbery with violence gang that was at the heart of various incidents in Narok.
The sleuths revealed that the gang of three members was nabbed in a sting operation after receiving a distress call of an ongoing robbery at Total village in Narok.
The gang had descended on a rental building, robbing tenants of their possessions and injuring a student at Maasai Mara University before fleeing the scene. However, a pursuit by the officers led to the apprehension of the three, with the authorities recovering the stolen items.
“Police officers from Narok Police Station have netted three suspects linked to a string of robbery with violence incidents in Narok town and its neighboring areas,” DCI revealed.
"The arrest follows a distress call about an ongoing robbery at Total village. Responding swiftly, the officers established that a three-man gang had stormed a rental building, robbed tenants of their cherished possessions including mobile phones, laptops, and gas cylinders,” they added.
Upon their arrest, police were able to recover three Maasai swords from the suspects, along with two Lenovo laptops, seven mobile phones, and a 6kg gas cylinder.
Further interrogation of the suspects led officers to a deeper discovery trail, where they recovered more stolen items, including Kenya Power meters.
"Following their arrest, the suspects further led officers to their residence, where additional stolen goods, including assorted electronics, gas cylinders, and Kenya Power meters, were recovered, some of which were positively identified by their rightful owners,” DCI expressed.
The latest comes after a 40-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, April 10, after terrorising the residents of the Lokichar Township with a string of robbery with violence crimes.
DCI revealed that a tip-off by residents prompted the launch of investigations into the matter. The suspect was ultimately apprehended at his residence in Kapese village, where a search of his premises uncovered several items linked to his crimes.
An AK-47 rifle was recovered, alongside an AK-47 magazine and seven rounds of ammunition. Multiple motorcycle frames, a car wash pressure pump, a solar inverter, and a white TATA double cab, among other items, were also recovered during the search.
The recovered items were securely detained as exhibits, and the case remains pending in court.
