A family in Busia County is appealing to well-wishers, Budalangi Member of Parliament Raphael Wanzala, and Busia Governor Paul Otuoma to help them raise Ksh3 million to settle bills and lay to rest five of their relatives who perished in a road accident.
The five lost their lives in a tragic accident in Uaranga, Siaya, on April 6.
The family lost a businessman, his two children, their housemaid, and another relative who were travelling home when the fatal crash occurred.
Their car, a saloon car, overturned after ramming into the stalled bus, with rescuers rushing to rescue the family and managing to save three children and the wife.
The family, who are still in shock following the deaths, have revealed that they are unable to shoulder the expenses, which came unexpectedly.
"Five people from our family died on the spot, while two others survived but have since been admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital. We need a total of Ksh3 million to cater to the hospital bill and allow us to accord our kin a decent sendoff," one of the family members revealed.
Speaking to the media, one of the family members, a grieving mother, shared her heartbreak, revealing the depth of her pain.
Struggling with illness herself, she tearfully recounted how one of her children, who had always been her pillar of support and the one who paid for her medication, was among those who had tragically died.
Her voice trembled as she expressed the unbearable weight of losing not just a loved one but the very person who had been her lifeline.
''I was shocked, and I am still shocked. What happened is very tragic, and I am sad that I have lost one of those who have been taking care of me and paying for my medication. As you see me now, I am practically dead with them,'' the mother painfully revealed.
The grieving family revealed that despite their efforts to raise funds, they have yet to collect enough to cover the overwhelming expenses.
With two survivors still hospitalised and medical bills mounting, they continue to hold onto hope, desperately seeking support to ease the financial burden during this heartbreaking time.
