Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday, April 15, revealed that an alliance between him, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee candidate Fred Matiang’i, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is on the cards.
While speaking at the burial ceremony of Reverend Joseph Nzola in Machakos, Gachagua announced that they had listened to the will of the people and were on the cusp of entering into an alliance that would dethrone President William Ruto from power.
“We have listened to Kenyans who have said we come together and form a government that would take the country forward. We are doing just that with Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Fred Matiang’i with me in the kitchen cooking it up,” Gachagua stated.
“And I want to assure the people of Kenya that we have a formula to give you good leadership and to the people of Ukambani, Kalonzo Musyoka is a major player in this agreement,” he added.
At the same time, Gachagua raised alarm over any intended efforts to scuttle the opposition, noting that leaders opposed to the government would remain mum on the chosen flagbearer up to the lead-up of the upcoming 2027 General Elections.
“They (the government) are trying to tear us apart and separate us well before the elections, but I want to tell you we are not stupid. We will not disagree with each other. We will stay quiet, and we will only speak in December 2026 before the elections,” he stated.
Since his exit from office, Gachagua has become a vocal critic of the government, promising to make Ruto a one-term president. However, Gachagua has experienced his fair share of troubles in this endeavour, encountering disruptions and damage to his cars on more than one occasion in his various engagements.
The former DP has sided with other opposition leaders such as Kalonzo, Wamalwa, and even People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, who experienced their fallout with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Meanwhile, Matiang’i, who served in the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been endorsed as the presidential flag-bearer of the Jubilee Party for the next elections.
Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has expressed his pessimism towards any alliances, noting that such agreements might lead to fallouts and are susceptible to infiltration from government quarters.
However, Kioni has still maintained that leaders opposed to Ruto’s administration have a common enemy in Ruto and that the goal remains to unseat him in the forthcoming polls.
Even so, Ruto has dismissed the notion that he will lose the 2027 elections, averring that he is well prepared to deal with any adversity that comes his way and secure the house on the hill for a second term.
