The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, April 15, apprehended two women following a damning WhatsApp status that had one of them brandishing a gun.

According to the DCI's report, the DCI detectives, alongside their counterparts from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in the Nyando, arrived at the doorstep of one of the women after reports of the ominous status update.

In the post, the woman reportedly warned any man planning on dumping her that there would be severe consequences as she posed with the weapon, a Canik pistol.

The officers then ascended into the residence of the woman in Awasi town, a two-bedroom house she shared with her friend and, later, co-accused.

A search of the residence uncovered the pistol in question, which was wrapped in clothes, stashed inside a basin and stored under the bed in a bid to mask it.

A fake motorcycle number plate was also discovered during the search.

The two were consequently taken into custody and are currently undergoing processing before arraignment in court.

Investigations by the detectives to uncover more suspects in connection to the gun are still ongoing.

This arrest comes just two days after a Kirinyaga man was apprehended and charged after sending a seemingly threatening message to the Mwea Member of Parliament (MP) Mary Maingi.

While appearing in court on Monday, April 14, the man was accused of using WhatsApp to send the threatening messages with the intention to harm the MP.

"On March 27, 2025, in an undisclosed place in Kenya, you knowingly used WhatsApp to send a threatening message from your phone number to the phone number of Mary Maingi, knowing that it would be harmful to the recipient," the charges read.

He was released on a Ksh100,000 bond or Ksh30,000 cash bail. His case will be mentioned on April 28.
