Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended a woman after she was found in possession of cocaine worth Ksh1.6 million.
Addressing members of the public on Saturday evening, the DCI officers revealed that the 45-year-old was nabbed hiding the illicit drugs inside her body.
The bust began when the middle-aged woman, a passenger in a Marsabit-bound Toyota Probox, decided to decline a routine search by police officers manning the highway.
According to the officers, while her fellow passengers complied with the officers’ checks, the woman threw a tantrum and refused to be searched by the police.
"Her defiance raised red flags, and Moyale detectives swooped in, escorting her to Moyale Sub-County Referral Hospital for a closer look," the detectives noted.
Upon search with the help of medical professionals, the authorities discovered she was concealing eight pellets of cocaine, weighing 414 grams, hidden in her body.
"The seized cocaine, with an estimated street value of Ksh1,656,000, is now safely locked as an exhibit, while the woman cools her heels at Moyale Police Station, awaiting her day in court," the DCI officers revealed.
The latest development comes just a day after the DCI officers arrested another woman after she was found in possession of 290 grams of cocaine in Moyale, Marsabit County.
DCI officers, while detailing her arrest, revealed that the woman was apprehended at the roadblock along the Moyale-Nairobi route while travelling to Nairobi.
The officers disclosed that during a search, the woman's behaviour raised suspicion, prompting the police to isolate her before she was frisked, only for the drugs to be recovered hidden inside her body.
"The guilty ones are always afraid. Female law enforcers isolated the 28-year-old for a thorough search, thereby confirming their suspicion," the detectives narrated.
"The suspect has been booked at Moyale Police Station, as anti-narcotics officers take up the matter to instigate legal processes," they added.
