"The highly addictive analgesic drug approximated at over Sh 297 million in street value, and 997g of Cocaine were destroyed yesterday at the Bamburi Cement incinerator in Mombasa, following the completion of the cases," it added.

The drugs were destroyed after various courts heard and determined cases in which accused persons were handed sentences after they were found guilty of trafficking in and dealing with narcotics.

According to the DCI, in 2018, two suspects, a male, and a female, were nabbed in Kikambala Estate in Kilifi County, with over 91.7 kilogrammes of heroin valued at over Ksh275 million and 997g of cocaine.

As the case progressed, the male suspect passed away, and on November 19, 2024, the female suspect was slapped with a 40-year jail term and an additional Ksh825,645,000 fine.

In March 2021, a female suspect was also arrested at the Moi International Airport with over 5.8Kgs of heroin which was valued at Ksh17.6 million.

After the case was completed, the suspect was slapped with a 30-year jail term.

Two more suspects nabbed with the drugs in separate incidents were also handed 13-year and 15-year jail terms.

"More trafficking cases are at advanced stages of prosecution, with anti-drug detectives heightening crackdowns across the country," DCI stated.
