Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has opened up about his chances of vying to unseat President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, April 19, Babu Owino reiterated his assertion that he is overqualified for the position and that he is the only person in Kenya who can beat President Ruto in the race.
In fact, the MP noted, he would beat the president the day before the elections, as opposed to a common saying that alludes to winning early in the morning.
"As of now, we are overqualified to beat the President of the Republic of Kenya. It is only Babu Owino who can beat Ruto squarely a day before the elections. Leave alone what people say early in the morning," the MP stated.
"We are also overqualified to be the governor of Nairobi and also to be a Member of Parliament. The most important thing is service to the people. It is not just the electoral process; it is what you do after being elected."
In his address, Owino highlighted his biggest qualification, which he said was identifying with the common Kenyans, as he has gone through so many of the challenges they experience.
According to Babu, these would provide him with the perfect opportunity to serve Kenyans, which he said was his ultimate plan in whichever seat he chose to vie for in 2027.
"The kind of leadership I want for myself in whichever position I vie for in 2027 shall be guided by the almighty God. I shall work for the people," he added.
Owino also called on Gen-Zs to take up positions in the next elections, asserting that anyone involved in the election process, including the voter, was a politician.
"Everybody in the country, anybody who goes to cast a ballot, is a politician. That is a political process they are engaging in, which means they are all politicians," the MP noted.
He further stated that the difference is that some elected politicians became leaders to serve the people, while others turned into "dealers" hell-bent on destroying the nation.
"I want to encourage this generation— the Gen Zs and millennials— to participate in the forthcoming elections in 2027 because they are the majority. They add up to approximately 65 to 70 per cent of the Kenyan population," Owino stated.
"That means they can produce a president among themselves, any governor, and MCAs. So do not just participate by voting, but also participate by going for these elective seats."
