Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has opened up about why he was dismissed as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General.

Malala, while speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Thursday morning, attributed his removal from the party leadership to a misunderstanding with President William Ruto.

The former UDA principal disclosed that his fallout with the Head of State began after he declined to sign the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

During the interview, Malala revealed that he refused to sign Gachagua's impeachment because the latter's dismissal would destabilise the Kenya Kwanza administration.

According to him, President Ruto even proposed making slight changes in UDA's top leadership by having two deputy party leaders as part of the broader scheme to frustrate Gachagua.

He recalled warning President Ruto against appointing two deputy party leaders, as it would weaken the party. Malala revealed that despite his advice, Ruto was adamant.

"I advised the President, as Secretary General, that impeaching Rigathi would sink our ship and destabilise the government. He dismissed me as an enemy. I was then asked to sign the impeachment," Malala claimed.

"They even proposed having two deputy party leaders to replace him seamlessly. I warned it would destabilise the party, but they were adamant. In the end, Malalah had to go," he added.

Malala further recalled being labelled as a mole within the current regime owing to his strong opposition against the impeachment of the former DP.

In the interview, Malala also hit out at Ruto for allegedly frustrating Butere Girls High School students over their controversial Echoes of War drama play.

According to the former Senator, the president knew exactly what he was doing and that he was the one who gave the orders barring the students from performing at the national level.

"The president is boxing in the dark. He is a paranoid leader at the moment because he knows what he has done, what he is doing, and what he is planning to do," the former UDA leader alleged.

He went on to add, "If you compare the statement he gave to the content of the Butere Girls' play, there is no connection. There was no paedophile in the play, and there was no drug peddler."
